Assets We Accept as Collateral | Borro

Borro accepts a broad range of luxury assets as collateral for short-term loans. The common thread across every category is secondary market liquidity — Borro can only lend against assets for which a clear, transparent resale market exists, because the asset’s market value is the basis for the loan amount. This page covers every asset category Borro currently accepts and explains what determines loan value within each.

Watches and Fine Timepieces

Watches are among Borro’s most common and straightforward collateral assets. The watch secondary market — driven by platforms like Chrono24, Watchfinder, and major auction houses — provides transparent, real-time pricing for thousands of references. Borro accepts watches from all major luxury manufacturers including Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Richard Mille, F.P. Journe, A. Lange & Söhne, Vacheron Constantin, Jaeger-LeCoultre, IWC, and others.

Loan value is determined by current secondary market pricing for the specific reference, adjusted for condition and documentation completeness. Watches with original box and papers typically support 15–30% higher loan amounts than equivalent watches without documentation.

Diamonds and Fine Jewelry

Borro accepts diamonds (loose and set), colored gemstones, and fine jewelry from established makers. For diamonds, the 4Cs — cut, color, clarity, and carat — determine base value, with GIA or AGS certification providing the documentation that supports accurate appraisal. Exceptional stones and important signed pieces from houses including Cartier, Bulgari, Van Cleef & Arpels, Harry Winston, and Tiffany command premiums over commodity equivalents.

Designer Handbags and Accessories

Hermès Birkin and Kelly bags represent the strongest collateral position in this category, followed by Chanel Classic Flaps, Louis Vuitton Capucines, and Dior Lady Dior in exotic materials or limited editions. Standard production handbags from Gucci, Prada, Bottega Veneta, and Saint Laurent qualify at lower LTV ratios reflecting their more moderate secondary market premiums. Authentication is required for all handbag collateral — Borro uses specialist authentication services as part of the appraisal process.

Luxury and Exotic Vehicles

Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Aston Martin, Porsche 911 Turbo, and Mercedes-Maybach are among the vehicles Borro regularly finances. Loan amounts reflect current wholesale market value adjusted for mileage, condition, and specification. Limited-edition and final-edition combustion vehicles may qualify for enhanced LTV ratios reflecting their collector market position. Classic and vintage vehicles with documented provenance are evaluated individually.

Fine Art

Borro accepts fine art from established artists with verifiable auction histories. Works by Post-War and Contemporary artists represented in major institutional collections, with documented provenance and recent comparable auction results, qualify for collateral loans. Art requires specialist appraisal and typically carries more conservative LTV ratios than watches or handbags, reflecting the less liquid nature of the art secondary market. Condition reports and authenticity documentation are required.

Other Luxury Assets

Borro evaluates other high-value luxury assets on a case-by-case basis, including rare wines and spirits with established auction markets, musical instruments from recognized makers, and significant collectibles with transparent secondary market pricing. If you have a high-value asset not listed here, contact Borro to discuss whether it qualifies.

Submit your asset for a no-obligation appraisal — Borro’s specialists will evaluate it against current market data and provide a loan offer within 24 hours.

About Borro

Liquidity backed by luxury, since 2008.

Borro was founded to give owners of fine art, jewelry, watches, and other valuable assets a faster, more discreet path to liquidity than a traditional bank loan or an outright sale. Since 2008, the company has funded loans against a wide range of luxury collateral for clients who need capital quickly without giving up ownership.

Every loan is secured directly against the asset itself, which means no credit checks, no income verification, and no impact on personal credit history. Clients retain ownership throughout the loan term and can reclaim their asset in full upon repayment.
