When you take a collateral loan with Borro, your asset enters Borro’s custody for the loan term. Understanding how your asset is stored, insured, and cared for during that period is a reasonable concern — and Borro’s security and storage standards are built to address it comprehensively.

A Trusted Steward

Over 15,000 clients have trusted Borro to safely store and return their luxury assets since the company’s founding in 2008. In that time, Borro has returned every single asset in the same condition it was received. That record is not accidental — it reflects purpose-built storage infrastructure, trained handling staff, and comprehensive insurance coverage that treats every asset as irreplaceable.

Climate-Controlled Storage

Luxury assets are sensitive to environmental conditions. Leather handbags are damaged by humidity extremes. Watch movements can be affected by temperature cycling. Fine art and jewelry require stable, monitored environments to preserve condition. Borro’s storage facility maintains climate control appropriate to high-value luxury goods — the same environmental standards used by major auction houses, museum storage facilities, and premium private vault operators.

Temperature and humidity are continuously monitored and logged. Any deviation from specified parameters triggers immediate response protocols. Your asset’s condition when you left it is its condition when you retrieve it.

Full Insurance Coverage

Every asset in Borro’s custody is insured at its full appraised value. Coverage begins the moment the asset leaves your possession — whether through our prepaid shipping program or white-glove courier — and continues through storage until the asset is returned to you. Borro carries commercial insurance appropriate to the total value of assets under management, not a blanket policy with asset-level sub-limits that could leave high-value items under-covered.

You do not need to arrange supplemental insurance or notify your own insurer. Borro’s coverage is comprehensive and specifically designed for the asset values we handle.

Security Protocols

Borro’s facility operates under physical security protocols appropriate to a high-value asset storage environment. Access is restricted to authorized personnel. Inventory is tracked individually — your specific asset is identified, catalogued, and located within the facility at all times. Staff who handle assets are trained in appropriate care standards for each asset category: watch handling, leather care, vehicle storage, and art handling all require distinct protocols.

Asset Condition Documentation

Every asset is photographed and documented in detail upon arrival, before any handling or appraisal. This documentation establishes the condition baseline for your specific asset and is the reference point for the return condition inspection when your loan is repaid. Any questions about condition changes during storage are resolved against this documented baseline — there is no ambiguity about the asset’s state at intake.

Documentation is available to borrowers upon request. If you want to see the intake condition report for your asset, Borro can provide it.

Return Process

When your loan is repaid, Borro ships your asset back to you via insured carrier at no cost. Return shipping includes the same insurance coverage as the inbound shipment. Packaging is completed by trained staff using appropriate materials for your asset category. You receive tracking information and can confirm delivery before the insurance coverage concludes.
