Caitlin M. St. John is a seasoned jewelry appraiser and expert with over 15 years of experience in the fine jewelry industry. A graduate of McGill University in Montreal, Canada, Caitlin began her career in 2007, initially applying her skills as a jewelry designer and sales representative. Her deep passion for vintage and antique jewelry led her to transition into full-time jewelry appraisal, where she has built a reputation for her extensive knowledge and precision in the field.
Caitlin earned her Graduate Gemologist (GG) designation from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in 2015. She has been an active member of the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA) since 2011. She regularly attends their semi-annual educational conferences and has recently contributed as a presenter, sharing her insights with fellow industry professionals.
Since 2018, Caitlin has been a key member of the New York Loan Company, where she is the lead underwriter, oversees the development and implementation of operational procedures, and handles in-person valuations across all asset classes. In addition, she coordinates continuing education initiatives for company valuation specialists, focusing on luxury brand authentication and the identification of lab-grown diamonds.
Caitlin’s expertise extends beyond appraisal into jewelry design, gemstone identification, and the authentication of fine timepieces and luxury handbags. Her deep understanding of jewelry history and design is complemented by her proficiency in formal appraisal report writing, including adherence to the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). She is well-versed in the authentication of prestigious watch brands such as Rolex, Patek Philippe, and Audemars Piguet, as well as high-end handbags like Hermès.
